ABOUT US
Thank you for visiting the Movie Horses New Zealand website. We are Jane Abbott, horse trainer and stunt rider, Ray Lenaghan, veterinarian specialising in horses, and Karen Mason, horse trainer and entrepreneur.
Jane and Ray were both professionally involved with the making of The Lord of the Rings movie. Jane was Liv Tyler’s stunt riding double and Ray worked full time as resident veterinary surgeon for the movie’s Horse Department.
After completion of the trilogy, Jane and Ray took on the care and training of some of the movie horses to foster their talent and to continue their education. Among them are Asfaloth, Princess Arwen’s white stallion, Gandalf’s cart pony, Black Rider and Rohan horses.
Together with Karen they have put together a number of productions, in which the original equine stars from The Lord of the Rings movies demonstrate their extraordinary abilities in live performances.
